Per-choice explanations

A. A service for deleting CloudWatch Logs

Incorrect. It is not a dedicated log deletion service.

B. A dedicated service for encrypting S3 objects

Incorrect. Encryption key management is handled by KMS.

C. Automatically generating Lambda function source code

Correct. Route 53 is a DNS-related service.

Practical Use

Amazon Route 53 is the managed authoritative DNS service provided by AWS. It centers on three core capabilities: domain name registration (registrar functionality), DNS name resolution (authoritative DNS server functionality), and routing policies that integrate with health checks. You create a "hosted zone," register DNS records (A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, Alias, and so on), and AWS edge locations respond to queries from DNS resolvers around the world. The available routing policies are Simple (a straightforward one-to-one resolution), Weighted (for A/B testing), Latency-based (routes users to the Region with the lowest latency), Geolocation (routes by country or region), Failover (switches to a standby when a health check fails), Multivalue answer (returns multiple IP addresses), and Geoproximity (routes by physical location with optional traffic bias). You choose between them based on the requirements. An Alias record is an important feature that differs from a CNAME because it lets you point an apex (root) domain directly to an AWS resource such as CloudFront, ALB, an S3 static site, or API Gateway. On the exam, the question is typically phrased as "Which service performs DNS name resolution?" or "Which service provides domain-related features?" Common distractors include options such as "automatically generates Lambda code," "encrypts S3 objects," or "deletes CloudWatch Logs," all of which are completely unrelated to DNS. CLF-C02 focuses on whether you can distinguish the scope of each service. SAA-C03 and above go deeper into when to use Alias records versus CNAME, how to select routing policies, health checks and DR design (Route 53 failover), and the relationship between a private hosted zone and a VPC.
